The Neighborhood Organization - TNO

aka Organization of Chester Neighborhoods - OCN

 

The TNO (for want of a better name) was established as a grass-roots community development organization tasked with the creation of a summer youth camp program at three sites within three months. The completion of this task contributed to the inspiration and formation of CICS. 

 

In collaboration with this organization, the first vision and project for CICS was to establish one of three community computer labs. We were successful and proud to provide 20 networked units with internet access and 4 instructors teaching evening computer classes in a church annex. Students received instruction for Microsoft Office, website development and how to use search engines to obtain information on various topics.

 

We also taught basic computer repair. Students completing the class were given a certificate and a computer. These efforts also spawned the creation of the Homework Helper after school program.
